The Importance of What We Do

On behalf of everyone at 35 Atlanta, I want to express our sincere condolences to Ashley on the sudden and tragic loss of her finace, Charlie (see NYC post below).  A couple of weeks ago, Erica & I had the honor of taking Ashley + Charlie’s engagement photos in New York City.  We spent most of the day with them, and by the end of a long day of shooting, considered them friends more than clients.

Sadly, we learned that Charlie passed away on Tuesday morning as a result of an enlarged heart.  Ashley’s comment in our blog post below really caused us to step back and think about what we do as photographers.  It’s not just about a unique angle, cool lighting or pressing the shutter at just the right time.  It is truly the preservation of a moment in time - a stage of life - and this tragic event reminds us all not to take a single one of those moments for granted.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Ashley and both of their families during this incredibly difficult time.  It is a grim reminder that none of us are guaranteed a tomorrow - a reminder to cherish today and those that share it with you.  To our fellow photographers that read this blog - let this remind us all to never forget the importance of what we do.

Kelly + Alex - Engagement Party

Recently I got to play guest (for once) at an engagement party for my sister! Yep… my little sister is getting married. I called up some of my favorite vendors in Atlanta and threw together the perfect party!

My sister and I got ready at our house. We played Rock Band and the fabulous Scoobie West came over and made us look super glamorous. I told him to make me look like Hilary Duff… what do you think? My sister’s fiance loves to gamble so I thought it would be perfect to host a casino party. I needed to find the perfect location so I called up the ladies at The Piedmont Room at Park Tavern. The room is so elegant and the backdrop of the midtown skyline made everything just come together! Eileen Carter made an amazing cake that was shaped like poker chips. Everyone enjoyed flavors like chocolate with fresh banana cream, marble cake with chocolate filling and white cake with fresh strawberry filling. Yummm!! I want some now! =) The flowers were provided by one of the best florists in the Atlanta area, Carla Duncan with On Occasions of Atlanta. I pretty much just told Carla the theme and color scheme and she went with it. The flowers looked so amazing!! And last but not least the guys over at Avalanche Entertainment hooked us up with some blackjack tables and a dj to keep us entertained all night long!

I had such a great time at the party and can’t wait for Kelly and Alex’s wedding in October… I get to be the Married Maid of Honor! =)
